NUDE Glass in conversation with Tamer Nakışçı

The interview

  1. What inspires you, and why?

The future, and to discover the unknown. I am trained as an industrial designer, with many other influences in the background, including performing arts and music. This has allowed me to look at things from both a functional and an emotional perspective. For me, an object has to have a really good reason to exist. I’m constantly looking for new ways to see and reflect on reality and to create new scenarios between people, objects, and spaces.

  2. Glassmaking boasts a rich tradition spanning centuries. Where does innovation come from?

As the world changes, so does our perception of it and the needs around it. I believe there will always be room for innovation. It is human nature to explore, and glass is a unique material that allows us to experiment and to see results almost instantly. For me, the most inspiring quality of glass is its ability to bend and reflect light, which is a starting point for my work most of the time. I think this is the true beauty of glass that should be celebrated.

  3. Sculptural and stackable, the unique design characterizing the collections allows you to create playful, unexpected compositions. What was the most challenging part of developing it?

There has been a lot of back and forth in the prototyping process in terms of the thickness and the angles, as I am quite detail-oriented, and I love that experience. I think, in the end, the most challenging part was actually choosing which pieces would go into production.

  4. What drew you to this particular shade of pink?

Every color has its frequency and its way of making us feel. I think dusty rose is a futuristic color, matching current aesthetics. We wanted to make sure the color we picked would enhance the warmth of the candlelight and adapt to the new Mist vases as well, maintaining transparency without obscuring the contents.

  5. How has your creative partnership with NUDE evolved over the years?

I have been with NUDE since the beginning, yet still, every creative meeting feels like the first one. It has been incredible to witness our growth together over the years. We had so many international milestones. It feels great to be on the same wavelength as there is so much more to discover.

  6. The collection also stands out with its intriguing ripple texture, heightening the effects of color, light, and shade. What guides your creative process: the visual or sensory experience?

When designing the Mist vase, the first instinct was a visual experience – I thought of an object that would blur and magnify what’s within, allowing the user to see things differently and bring them into the moment. I wanted to incorporate the same idea in the new Mist Lights collection. The addition of the fire element has been the most exciting, and we worked hard to create an experience that speaks to all senses and the imagination.

  7. Do you have a trick for lifting interiors?

The perfect form and perfect setting don’t exist. We create them for every situation. Even if you achieve a satisfying result, that feeling doesn’t last too long, as you get used to it or get a better idea. So, my advice would be to keep an open mind.
