Intersection
Three volumes, woven by hand.
Between the digital
and the handmade.
Intersection explores connections between different times, techniques, dimensions and people. Three minimal volumes intersect visually without touching one another; their overlapping lines form an intricate web that changes with every viewpoint.
First realized for Istanbul Design Week in 2011, the five-metre installation was constructed using 1.6 kilometres of elastic. Simple lighting and the complexity of water make a physical, hand-woven structure appear almost like a digital projection.

Explore the form.
The original computer model brings together a central circular volume and two offset elliptical volumes. Turn it to see how their lines redraw one another in perspective.

Original film.
The complete 2011 project film moves from the hand-built study to the full installation suspended inside the bridge.
Under the bridge.
The industrial frame of the old Galata Bridge became part of the work. From across the water it read as a single red image; up close, the material and its depth came into view.
Woven by hand.
A form developed and rotated on a computer became a small model, tied line by line by hand. Building it at full scale meant working from inside the geometry. What first appeared futuristic became a low-tech act of weaving—an intersection with craft, cultural heritage and familiar gestures of making.
Light and depth.
Red, blue and ultraviolet light move across the same fixed geometry. The strings catch colour selectively, so the work appears to breathe, flatten and open without moving.
Magic Forest, 2024.
Reconfigured for the Unforbidden Festival's Magic Forest in Istanbul, Intersection moved into a living frame. White string absorbed the changing daylight; after dark, coloured light returned the geometry to an intense graphic field.
